Its pretty much an annual event... me doing something strenuous and then asking for money to support a cause or a campaign. With your help over the past few years we have sent water pumps to Africa, supported a mostly unacknowledged group in Polio survivors now dealing with Post Polio Syndrome (my Dad being one of them). We also helped out a little boy Matthew with Autism. There is no change to the programme this year and I hope with your help to support two great organisations Temple Street Children's Hospital and Educate Together Swords.
I started out in January to run 2015 in 2015, I also knew I would take on a number of big events this year however I was not quite sure where I would focus my fundraising attention. In April, Jennifer my youngest fell ill and spent a week in Temple Street. On the day we took her to AE, a two year old was brought in following a car accident. To see how the staff responded and despite the traumatic situation the way in which they cared for everyone that evening was so inspiring. A week in a children's hospital is a sad, happy, emotional, inspiring and very moving experience. Jennifer is perfectly fine now but of course Temple Street is still a very busy hospital. I have a target of €2,000 which I will split with Temple Street and Educate Together and I am sure the team in Temple Street will make good use of €1,000.
Educate Together is the patron body of the growing network of schools in Ireland that are run according to the Educate Together Charter. It is an independent NGO that runs schools that guarantee equality of access and esteem to children "irrespective of their social, cultural or religious background", are learner centred in their approach to education and are run as participatory democracies, with respectful partnership between parents, pupils and teacher, This is directly from Educate Together however as a parent of a child who goes to an Educate Together in my view they are very special schools. From the energy and passion of the teachers to the support and involvement of parents it is a great place to spend time for the kids and parents. I hope with your help to support the team in the school build a sensory garden and soft play area.
